No Official Historical Arrest Blotter
Craven County Active Bookings shows who is in custody today. It is not an archive. Group the listed people by booking date and you get a useful multi-day view. Yet it can never honestly claim to include everyone arrested in Craven County during those days. A record can leave the list in several ways. Release, transfer, a brief hold, or booking in another jurisdiction pulls it off. The county also leaves out juveniles and federal inmates.
That gap defines Craven arrest-report work. A current bookings page sorted by booking date is an accurate description. A complete weekly arrest log is not. The county itself says the list updates as often as possible. There is no weekend, holiday, or hourly promise. So timing shifts whenever data is posted or custody changes.
A snapshot, not a story: the list tells you who is in custody right now, nothing more. A name vanishing from the roster does not mean a charge went away. Save the booking number and date so the custodian can locate the underlying arrest report for you.
Build a Multi-Day Booking View
- Open the county's live active roster.
- Review Booking Date values and arrange only the currently displayed entries by date.
- Match name, age, and booking number rather than relying on name alone.
- Record which agency made the arrest when the official report identifies it. A person's address is not proof of arrest location or arresting agency.
- For same-day intake and lag issues, use Arrested Today. For custody-change alerts, use the VINE Arrest Check.
- For a released person, move to the agency record and court file instead of treating the active roster as defective.
Each roster entry may show the facility, ORI, booking number, name, age, address, booking date, bond total, statute, description, and court date. Bond amounts can change. Treat the statute description as what was entered at booking, and the court date as a schedule, not a result.
Cached Mirrors Can Lag
CravenLive's Jail Active Bookings mirror lets you search by name, statute, or booking number. Its fields resemble the county roster. It lists ORI NC0250000. It credits county and JailATM sources, and states plainly that it relies on a cached copy. The site has no official affiliation. It also warns it may lag. That honesty helps you see how copied booking data drifts from the source. It still makes CravenLive a mirror, not a custodian. The mirror's own search screen carries the delay notice visitors will meet.

Recognize the unofficial interface for what it is. Then go back to the county source. If the official and cached pages disagree, trust the current county roster for who is actually in custody, and call the detention center at 252-636-6619 when timing matters. Never republish cached names or photographs as a lasting archive.
Find an Older Arrest Report
When a booking is no longer active, start with the Craven County Sheriff's Office. Or go to the arresting municipal department. The Sheriff's business line is 252-636-6620, and the county directory lists records support at 252-636-6630. Ask for the exact item: arrest report, incident report, booking record, or booking photograph. Give the approximate date and agency. The county's public-records page uses pio@cravencountync.gov. It sends court and criminal case material to the Judicial Branch.
Each city handles its own paper. New Bern Police runs a Technology and Records Unit. Havelock routes arrest and case-report requests through its Records Division. Trent Woods Police offers a direct contact path. A city arrest and a county stay in jail are separate records with separate custodians. Cases that reached court belong with the Craven County Judicial Branch, the eCourts Portal, a courthouse terminal, or the Clerk of Superior Court, where the final outcome lives.
Archives Answer Different Questions
Two county pages can surface dated notices: the Press Releases page and the Archive Center. Neither is a booking index. Big operations and public-safety alerts get announced. Ordinary arrests usually do not. North Carolina records schedules set how long each custodian keeps a given series. One agency's schedule never applies to another office or a private copy. For deeper history, the State Archives Craven County records guide documents old county and court holdings, including criminal-action files. Many are not indexed by name.

That guide serves focused historical digging, not a current arrest search or a broad dossier. The Archives newspaper guide identifies New Bern and Craven titles on microfilm. Expunction can clear official state records. Yet it does not automatically erase independent news or private copies. An old result never proves current custody.
Use Arrest News as a Lead
New Bern Live's dated crime and arrest archive is the best local narrative lead available. A story can name an operation. It may cite the agency involved or a stated detention destination. Its coverage is selective, not a blotter. Reports may involve the Sheriff, New Bern Police, Havelock Police, NCSBI, ALE, U.S. Marshals, task forces, or neighboring counties. The arresting agency can differ from the holding facility. So can the court.

A dated news story with clear attribution makes a useful lead. Treat it as a pointer toward official Craven County records, not the final word. WITN's regional crime page and the New Bern Sun Journal both add dated context worth checking. Aggregators are weaker ground. Statewide arrest indexes and mugshot sites can sit stale, incomplete, or mismatched, so treat them as discovery leads only. The county jail roster and the court file always come first.
Separate Arrest From Later Custody
A hit in the NCDAC offender search points to prison, probation, parole, or another state correctional status. It is not the original Craven County jail booking. NCDAC states plainly that its search excludes county-jail information. Federal custody runs through the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. ICE keeps its own separate immigration detainee locator. None of these is a county arrest feed.
NC SAVAN and VINELink can bridge those custody transitions and send notifications when status changes. They still do not replace an agency report or a court disposition. The Sheriff's Android app advertises current inmate search plus news alerts. It does not offer a multi-day arrest archive or a public booking-photo history.
Photos Need Custodian Confirmation
The county's official current roster shows no public booking-photo field or attachments. A picture on an unofficial archive can be old, copied, or tied to the wrong record. Never lean on one to identify a person with a common name. If a photo is needed for a lawful public-record purpose, ask the responsible custodian and follow any investigative, confidentiality, sealing, or identity restrictions. North Carolina law promises no such thing. No statute requires every booking image to be posted online.
Arrest Reports Are Not Verdicts
Arrest reports change as cases move through the courts. The clerk's office can confirm the current status of any charge.
A booking entry shows only the arrest itself. Case outcomes live in the court file, and the original custodian can correct errors in a record.
